Transforming the Journey

Supporting Your Loved One, Family & Caregivers as They Navigate the Dying Process

Hello! My name is Gloria Reading. I am an end-of-life doula, an Advance Directive consultant, a community speaker on the topics of dying and grieving, and founder of Transforming the Journey.

When someone we love has been given a terminal diagnosis, everything changes – for everybody. Life becomes harder physically, emotionally and spiritually for the terminal person and those who love him/her.

This is when an end-of-life doula can be brought into your family to ease your burden and share your load. An EOL doula offers personal, laser-focused care and companionship to the terminal patient and meaningful support to the family.

An EOL doula welcomes and works in concert with Hospice when they are involved.

The End-of-Life doula is a highly-trained professional who is a trusted companion to the dying person and his/her loved ones.

You are not alone. We walk this journey together.

We encourage the involvement of Hospice and work collaboratively with them when they are involved. Our mission is to provide supportive companionship to the dying person and his/her family throughout the days and nights of terminal illness, sit vigil when the time comes, and provide laser-focused support.

I am passionate about writing and sharing resources to assist you with end-of-life issue.  Please click here to read my blog.

Advance Directive Consultant

An Advance Directive is a LEGAL document, the purpose of which is to give your health care agent/proxy legal knowledge about your wishes if you can no longer speak for yourself.

By planning in advance, you can feel confident that you will receive the medical care YOU DO/DO NOT desire if you can no longer speak for yourself. Such a document is a gift to your loved ones because it relieves them of the burden and potential guilt of making major medical decisions about your treatment during moments of crisis. Advance directives help reduce confusion and disagreements.

Many people think advance directives are only for the elderly. However, unexpected end-of-life situations can happen to anyone at any age. It is essential that EVERY ADULT prepare an advance directive for their family and their medical care provider.

I welcome and would consider it a privilege to help you write an Advanced Directive. Please click here to learn more about my services.

Community Speaker

I am happily available to speak to your organization – be it a club, a group of friends, a church, or a fellowship on important end-of-life topics.

Even though we are all going to die, dying or death are not a typical topics for a speaker at a civic, community or religious organization.  However these are appropriate topics because they potentially involve all of us.

Strangely enough, this talk need NOT be depressing or disturbing but LIFE-AFFIRMING.  My intention is that attendees leave the event with a better understanding of the “business” of “preparing for” their end of life, then go forward empowered to live every day appreciating this wonderful gift called LIFE.

“At present, we are looking at puzzling reflections in a mirror.  The time will come when we shall see reality whole and face to face!  At present, all I know is a little fraction of the truth, but the time will come when I shall know it as fully as God knows me.”
– I Corinthians 13:12, J. B. Phillips Translation
